Final Rites

Final Rites represents the beginning of my photographic practice - the period where I learned to observe, to tune into the environment, and to embrace the trial and error of the creative process. This work grew out of the time spent within graveyards and cemeteries, landscapes that offered an accessible yet poignant introduction to the power of visual storytelling.

In these spaces, I learned to navigate the weight of emotion and history through a lens. By documenting the quiet markers of memory and the atmosphere of the churchyard, I began to understand how a specific environment can dictate the tone of an image. This project was not just an exploration of the site itself, but a personal education in how to capture the subtle threads of a narrative before they fade. It remains a reminder that the time dedicated to practice is a vital accumulation of experience, where every mistake contributes to a deeper understanding of the craft.

“Seeing comes before words. The child looks and recognises before it can speak.” - John Berger
